Introduction:

We have been thinking about children's rights and the current and future sistuation in the world. Our students wrote down their opinion and a statement about these rights. This is what we will think of in this learning circle. Here are two opinions and statements by Floris and Maureen:

Every child in the world has certain rights, for example: they have the right to go to school.

But in some countries children don’t have those rights, or don’t have acces to them.

In Africa some children can’t go to school.

statement: We should make sure that children in the world have acces to those rights.

But I think we can only manage this in times of peace…

Without these rights children live in bare circumstances, or will end up in bare circumstances later.

Many children have to work for thier parents because they don’t earn enough money. These children have to work so they can’t go to school, and the right to have education is one of the children’s rights.

Opinion: I think the existence of those rights is nice since it helps us to build a future, but that they are extrememly diffucult to accomplish in poorer countries.

My opinion is that the children must get more rights. Children are important for our world, and it is very important that they get a good youth. In poor countries the children often have to do heavy work, and they can’t play. In the rich countries the people do not really think about it or do something about it. As long as the situation here is good, people do not worry. We want to buy things as cheap as possible. We do not look at the label, we just buy it. But we have to change something about this terrible problem, and this is my opinion.

My statement

We forget about the children and we keep on buying cheap things. This has to stop and when this has stopped, we can start changing the situation there. But it all starts with ourselves.

Contributions Challenge 1:

About the topic 'a safe home' we created a couple of things: a rap, two songs and some cartoons about this topic. Hopefully you will enjoy our contribution!

Rap

1 I remember the times, when the environment was safe

2 when I only heard the sound of the birds that sang

3 I remember when my house wasn’t a cave

4 every day and night, there is always a bang

5 I remember the times when we had time to play

6 but now it is done, our fun’s gone away

1 They want to have a safe home

2 No more being on your own

3 They need people to care about them

4 These kids are still so young

5 They need someone among

6 Their whole youth is gone

They want a safe home

1 When they were young they thought they would live happily ever after

2 But now it’s not strange that bullets fly around

3 Why would this happen they still don’t know the answer

4 Why are they forced to leave their home town

5 Some are victims of child abuse

6 They can’t meet with their friends or go to school

7 Some work on a farm or in clothing produce

8 This Whole situation, we think it’s just cruel

They all need a safe home

1 I saw people dying,

2 Everywhere people were crying

3  We’ll always hope for a safe place

4 and for people with a happy face

5 People say I have to be strong and become a real men

6 But I want to see my family and friends again!

8 This Whole situation, we think it’s just cruel

1 Their parents died

2 No food around

3 This could be prevented if we tried

4 These kids need to be found

5 No place to live

6 What more do these kids need to give?

Safe Home

I want to live in a country without war

where it’s safe with no fighting anymore

A country with freedom and peace

a country w     ith wealth that will increase

I want to be safe wherever I go

I don’t want to be scared to be shot in my torso.

I want this battle to end

I just want to play with my friend

When I go I have to leave everything behind

My family, my stuff but it’s still in my mind...

I hope my future will be safe when I’m old

And everything will be well controlled

I woke up, hearing creepy sounds,

it were bombs, weighing million pounds.

Gunshots everywhere,

Like the soldiers didn’t care.

No one pays attention to us,

please,  just discuss.

My cousin always told me

Stories ‘bout his life.

His mother died young.

And he never had a father

But he got through it.

Blood, sweat and tears.

With a lot of fears

Why do we only think about ourselves

On the other side of the world

Are a lot of problems

That need to be solved.

We need to give them aid.

We need to step up

Aaaannnd give them rights

The world isn’t fair…

But what can we do against it.

We gotta fight it.

We gotta face our fears

Just take a moment and think about those kids.

(lots of time here)
